Big Nerd Ranch is a mobile app development and design firm and training company that has led one-week intensive bootcamps since 2001. Hosted at their Atlanta, Georgia campus, courses focus on mobile development in iOS and Android as well as front-end web development, Python, full stack and React. Students are taught how to learn in order to stay ahead in the tech world. Students learn how to create digital products that stand out, and are able to connect with instructors and classmates in order to continue coding with confidence.
Course instructors are full-time developers, designers, and consultants who have real-world experience in building custom iOS, Android, and Web applications for clients. In addition to the bootcamps, instructors also teach at companies throughout the world, including Facebook, Spotify, Airbnb and more as part of their corporate training program. Students live and learn at the ranch during these courses and distractions are limited, as meals and accommodations are provided.
Big Nerd Ranch took me from zero to hero in 7 intense days of brain bulging education. I took it home and was able to build on everything I learned to work towards my first app release.
Amazing people in amazing locations really enhance the learning experience past anything you expect going in. Just super.
I took a course on Cocoa several years ago in Germany, and it was a great experience. Aaron is an excellent teacher, the materials are very well put together, and the peers in the course were very fun to talk with and plan projects with.
This course also eventually led me to start my own small business, largely focused on iOS development. This was hugely successful and the course paid for more than itself several times over.
I can't think of a better place to learn. Asilomar is a wonderful experience and the teacher and material were top notch. The week felt more like a vacation than a class.
Would not hesitate to take another Big Nerd Ranch class or recommend Big Nerd Ranch to others.
This training really helped me to cover the basics of iOS development. Before starting, I already had quite a couple years of software development experience, which made things a bit more manageable for me, but still... It was very intensive, started right after breakfast and often continued till well after dinner. I'm not sure I've ever been so tired in my entire life, but it was totally worth it. The teachers were great, I could never have accomplished this in the same amount of time on my own, even though the Big Nerd Ranch guides are also very good. I took this training pre-Swift, and ARC was just introduced, so it's a while ago, but they made sure that the newest technologies were covered in the training. Teachers used good real life examples, they were very aproachable, and helpful. It's a good mix between classical instruction and doing excercises. Never regretted taking this course!
This 5-day class explores advanced iOS development topics and will teach you how to maximize the performance of your new and existing iOS applications. Prepare your brain for an influx of Swift and iOS programming knowledge.
I attended the Beginning iOS Bootcamp in September 2013. Mikey and Step were outstanding instructors, both deeply knowledgeable and extremely patient.
Big nerd ranch is not cheap, but if you're serious about starting with a new technology, this is the place to go (short of spending hours learning online, which is also valid). The whole experience is worth the money, to a certain degree. You will learn whatever technology you're attending to learn, but be well rested and try to have a decent "base" before you go, their trainings are short (1 week max) and so they need to cramp a lot of information in those days. You don't want to waste 50...

Great class that got you up and running on Objective C and iOS development. Great class, excellent instructors.
I took this course in Monterey with Scott Ritchie. Scott is an amazing instructor. As a new developer he made the course easy to follow and used lots of real examples. I also really enjoyed the walks he took us on during breaks, it gave us a chance to enjoy some of the lesser explored areas on the beach. The conference center is in such a unique location that it makes the entire experience very enjoyable, to the point that you forget you are spending 10+ hours in the class room a day.
As a software tester making the jump to developer, I already knew a lot about certain aspects of iOS development, like provisioning and Human Interface Guidelines. But learning APIs by reading Apple's class references wasn't teaching me how to be a good developer.
Mikey's course offered a good mix of technical info and stylistic advice. He fielded both basic and advanced questions with deep knowledge and respect.

The retreat setting made it easy for me to focus on practicing the material without distractions of a usual work week.
When I took the course, it was a bit of an awkward mix of Swift and Objective-C, but realistically, so are most real world iOS development projects right now.
Best learning experience I've ever had, would recommend it anytime!
The course and instructor were great. I did not care for the acomidations. The room was old and kinda smelled. There was also no air conditioning in the room. I also really disliked the meals. I dont eat fish and fish was serverd twice. I asked if I could just have a kids meal that were prepared for other guests and they told me no. I spent more time driving to get alternative meals than when I took a course at Banningmills in GA
