On October 26th, the Course Report team took over the Women in Tech Snapchat Channel and had a blast introducing everyone to coding bootcamps, Course Report, and even took followers along to tour three NYC coding bootcamps!

But if there’s one bummer about Snapchat, it’s that the snaps disappear! So of course, we posted the Snapstory to YouTube (above), and reflected on our day (below). Take five minutes to follow along, meet our team, and get to know coding bootcamps in a whole new light!

Learn about coding bootcamps – intensive, immersive schools that teach beginners technical skills like web and mobile development. In the past, to become a developer, you had to get a CS degree, which have traditionally catered to men. But coding bootcamps are different- they’re short, inclusive, and 43% of bootcamp grads are women!

We cross the Brooklyn Bridge to give you a sneak peak at three NYC coding bootcamps in the Financial District: Flatiron School, Dev Bootcamp [As of December 8, 2017, Dev Bootcamp will no longer be operating], and Startup Institute.

At Flatiron School, we share plenty of classroom pics (their space and their students are so creative!), hear from co-founder Avi Flombaum and learn why one student chose Flatiron School.

At Dev Bootcamp, we learn about Neil’s final project, got a career tip from Bie, and got the rundown on Engineering Empathy from Olivia.

At Startup Institute, we learned about the four “career tracks” that students choose from, and how improv can help prep students for their first tech jobs.

Finally, choosing the coding bootcamp that’s right for you doesn’t have to be scary. Here are 7 tips to narrow down your options:

1. Choose your city. Just remember that it’s best to attend a bootcamp in the city you want to get a job in!
2. Ruby on Rails? Python? iOS?  Choose a language that’s interesting and popular in your job market (pro tip: do a search on Indeed.com to narrow it down). Check out Ruby vs Python: Choosing Your First Programming Language.
3. Part Time vs Full Time: Are you ready to quit your job and dive into a coding bootcamp full-time? Great! If not, there are some part-time schools.

5. Read Reviews! There are over 4000 alumni reviews on Course Report, so what are you waiting for?! Start reading!
6. Be a Bootcamp Stalker! Use an advanced LinkedIn search to find bootcamp alumni, and message them to get coffee.
7. Visit, visit, visit! Go visit the classroom or attend a meetup hosted by the bootcamp. Anything to see if you really vibe with the school’s learning environment.
