€3.25M FUNDRAISE + 1 NEW ACQUISITION

  • Noodle announced its acquisition of Meteor Learning this month for an undisclosed amount.
  • Higher Ed Dive reported on a Coursera analyst call, which revealed their revenue increased to $153.7 million in the second quarter of 2023, up 23% compared to the same period last year, thanks to the demand for their entry-level professional certificates like a cybersecurity analyst certificate and degree programs through universities in India/Columbia.
  • Tech EU reported that a cybersecurity training platform called Pistachio secured €3.25 million in funding for growth.
  • General Assembly named Daniele Grassi as its new president. Grassi is the former president of the bootcamp, Ironhack
  • Inside Higher Ed announced that SNHU would be closing Kenzie Academy, which they acquired less than two years ago.
  • Daily Business Group reports that CodeClan has gone into commercial liquidation in Scotland.

AI IN BOOTCAMPS & TECH HIRING

  • Our panelists from Flatiron School, Tech Elevator, Code Fellows, General Assembly, and Springboard gave so much grounded advice in our recent webinar, AI at Tech Bootcamps!
  • Morning Brew published a summary of companies like Netflix and TikTok that are willing to pay between $200K - $900K for machine learning/AI professionals!
  • edX is launching an Artificial Intelligence bootcamp at universities like Michigan State University and University of Denver this fall.
  • Flatiron School announced a new AI-powered chatbot learning aid that it’s implementing into the program to further personalize its student support.
  • General Assembly is adding new Generative AI course modules to its curriculum.
  • Tech Elevator received a glowing spotlight by Spectrum News for helping Cleveland folks make career changes into tech. Tech Elevator just graduated its 3,000th student this summer!
  • CBC did a profile on how Canadian bootcamp, Get Coding, helps those in the Canadian territories like Labrador and Newfoundland make career changes into tech.

NEW CYBERSECURITY TRAINING INITIATIVES

HOW BOOTCAMPS ARE COUNTERACTING LAYOFFS

  • Layoffs.fyi released data on who the tech layoffs affected this past year, and the data shows that 55% of those people were men versus 45% were women.
  • In a conversation between Emily Peck of Slate and Emma Goldberg of The New York Times, they point out that women only make up 39% of the tech workforce, so a layoff affecting nearly half of that contingent is very significant.
  • Le Wagon has partnered with Inter-American Development Bank and Quotanda to offer 100 women in tech scholarships to students at its Mexico City campus.
  • Code Fellows has partnered with The Alliance for Economic Development of Oklahoma City to offer free cybersecurity and software development training to residents of underserved communities.

NEW CODING BOOTCAMPS

  • University of Northern Florida has partnered with Fullstack Academy to offer a new AI & machine learning bootcamp that starts on September 11th.

4 NEW SCHOOLS ADDED TO COURSE REPORT

OUR FAVORITE PIECES ON THE BLOG

Jess loved speaking with Eleven Fifty Academy about their new part-time, online Test Prep Course that is aimed at helping people get ready for the CompTIA exams. What makes this course different from the many other cybersecurity exam prep courses is that it’s instructor-led, so it’s perfect for anyone who wants more support as they prepare for the Security+ or Network+ exams.

Liz has enjoyed working on our new blog series about how to pay for specific bootcamps. This August, we talked to Springboard and General Assembly about what their payment options are and which are best for each type of student.
