Happy (nearly) summer! As the COVID-19 vaccines roll out, we’re happy to relay news that tech hiring is on the rise, which means plenty of job opportunities for bootcamp graduates. Also on our May episode, we’re talking about reports that companies are partnering with coding bootcamps to reskill their internal workforce, and what this could mean for the future of education. Towards the end of May, there was plenty of buzz about Lambda School. And we’re looking back on what has (and hasn’t) changed when it comes to diversifying the tech pipeline. Plus, find out which 23 new bootcamps we added to the Course Report directory this month!

$2.5M FUNDRAISES + AN IPO + LAMBDA LAWSUIT

• ITWeb reports that iXperience raised a $2.5M Series A investment.
• Galvanize appointed Ricky Hamilton as Chief Executive Officer. 
• According to Nimby, the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust recently granted a sponsorship to Holberton School to support its Holberton Software Development School and Computer Science coding program. 
• NexGenT (now NGT Academy) is about to IPO under the Regulation A+ securities exemption and has agreed to be featured on entrepreneur.com’s new TV series, “Going Public.”
• TechCrunch reported that Lambda School had a round of layoffs and restructuring. 
• InsideHigherEd and Yahoo! News covered the new lawsuit against Lambda School by three Lambda School alumni accusing the school of false advertising. 
• Even though Lambda School seems to have some restructuring to do, Ryan Craig came to Lambda School’s defense in his article in Forbes.

BOOTCAMPS & CORPORATE TRAINING

• In an interview with Yahoo! News, Pearson CEO Andy Bird sees the surge of interest in alternative credentials and reskilling programs as evidence that companies will become the new universities of the future. Bird points to Amazon which has partnered with Kenzie Academy and Lambda School to reskill its workers. 
• EdSurge reports that corporations unable to hire enough workers to fill tech positions are assuming the costs and risks of preparing people for entry-level technology roles by offering apprenticeships.
• Templar Payments has become a hiring partner of coding bootcamp Northcoders through the Apprenticeship Levy, which is a UK tax on employers that can be used to fund apprenticeship training. 

GETTING HIRED IN THE US – MAY 2021

• Dice released their Q1 Tech Job Report and found that Seattle’s hiring scene is back up.
• KIRO7 highlighted how Seattle-based Code Fellows has been helping people throughout this past year make a career change into these pandemic-resistant tech fields through their online coding bootcamp.
• Business Insider caught up with Lisa Lewin, the new CEO of General Assembly, about how tech training programs are crucial during difficult economic times, especially in “second- or third-tier cities” who were already hit by the loss of manufacturing jobs. 
• Delaware Business Now reported on Zip Code Wilmington’s amazing 90% job placement rate for its rapid training program, Forward Delaware.

DIVERSIFYING THE TECH PIPELINE

• CNBC and the Morning Brew reported on how tech companies like Facebook and Twitter are falling short of their promise to diversify their own tech hires.
• Here are 21 coding bootcamp scholarships with a mission to diversify the tech pipeline!
• Galvanize announced a partnership with Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTM), a nonprofit that bridges the gap between Black and Hispanic communities and tech. 
• In Forbes, Taavi Must highlighted the lack of diversity in cybersecurity and how cybersecurity can diversify their own tech pipeline. 
• Technically Baltimore highlighted the good work Flatiron School has been doing to encourage more women to get into tech, such as its scholarship program, Women Take Tech.

LEARN TO CODE THIS SUMMER!

• 30+ coding bootcamp programs that are perfect for high schoolers!
• According to WFMZ, 2U just announced that it is expanding its high school boot camp program to four universities this summer. These programs give students aged 13 and older an intro to coding and data fundamentals. 
• Whether you’re making a career change or upskilling, check out our roundup of summer coding bootcamp cohorts — many of these bootcamps are currently accepting applications, so don’t miss out!

5 NEW SCHOOLS & 3 NEW COURSES

• Alliant International University has announced a new partnership with Sabio for their BS in Information Systems Technology (BSIST). 
• University of New Mexico has partnered with Promineo Tech to offer an affordable coding bootcamp.
• Pasadena Now reports that Fullstack Academy is partnering with CalTech to offer data analytics bootcamps.
• GovTech.com reports that Fullstack Academy will partner with Colorado State University to offer a cybersecurity bootcamp.
• Flatiron School announced in EdScoop that it has redesigned its courses and lecture series around hybrid work and will now be offering Live and Flex course options.
• Mississippi Coding Academies, a free, 11-month coding bootcamp, is now accepting applications.
• Flatiron School is now offering a Product Design bootcamp in lieu of the standard UX/UI design bootcamp.
• DigitalCrafts added full-time UX design and cybersecurity bootcamps, and they will be taught in a hybrid learning format.
