Full Review:
There are a couple programs out there that might help cover tuition if you qualify and the school offers reasonable financing options. I had spoken to one of their recruiters before signing up and was able to work out options best suited to my financial situation with their senior leadership. They have some information about their financing options on their website, but if the cost of tuition is the only hurdle you see then be open with them and talk it out. They absolutely want to help people who honestly wish to help themselves.
Skillspire is a small institution focused on getting people into the tech industry. Their size allows them to help you in the right capacity needed for your situation. They have more freedom to accommodate their students on a personal basis.
Are you a nervous test taker or stress over due dates? NO WORRIES HERE! You won't take a single exam and due dates are very flexible. The course was designed to be no stress/low pressure for the students. The grading structure is very relaxed as well. Turn in your assignment and get the points.
Concerned you won't be able to find the time to participate?
I live on the East Coast and they're based in Seattle, WA. That's a 3 hour time difference. Wednesday classes were late for my time zone but if I couldn't make it to class the instructor sent a link to the recording of the class. They're understanding and lenient on attendance.
You will not pass/fail based on attendance or grades. You are responsible for learning the material just like any other learning institution but they will pull all the stops to make sure you can learn what they're teaching. You get out of this course exactly what you put in. When I went through the course we didn't have our first official homework assignment until just before half way through the 20 weeks. Personally I recommend using an additional resource to practice what you learn between classes. I was brand new to all the material and I felt I needed it and the extra practice helped.
Worried you're computer skills are outdated?
For me, I was a fairly new to programming and didn't have a language I already knew. I had dabbled in C++ in the early 2000's and I liked it. I can't say I put much effort in staying current in tech since that time. When I was looking into this course I wasn't even familiar with Window OS's post Windows XP. I used computers at work that ran Windows 7 - 10 but I only used them for very basic tasks. Upon signing up for the course I had to get myself a proper laptop but I was definitely overdue. ; )
My point is, I barely had a hobby remotely related to tech before I took this course and I didn't struggle due to that. I had played around with some Linux distros on an ARM device (Raspberry Pi 3B+) I purchased on a whim a few years ago but it wasn't even operational when I committed myself to taking the course. I was absolutely a novice.
I just recently finished the course and I'm excited to see where I end up from here.- 3Reviews4CoursesThe Alliance For Digital Employability provides 12 or 24-week, full-time full stack coding bootcamps in Athens, Greece. I am currently part of the first cohort of 2019 and we just finished week 8, which is the first week of JavaScript.
I wanted to write a review specifically for anyone who is in the position I was in before I signed up--thinking that the bootcamp looked incredible on paper but a bit confused by the lack of reviews. I can assure you that the bootcamp is as incredible as it appears-- currently 5 hours in-class, 4 days a week, 26 weeks and really they are very generous about helping you during non-class hours, either answering questions promptly online or even allowing you to stop by their offices to hang out. Inventive is also a consulting company, so during the day they are there working as professional developers. This means that there is no risk of getting an inexperienced instructor for the course... Andy and Miguel know their stuff and are both very kind.
I suppose it's hard to know if you are fully satisfied with your bootcamp until you land your first job, but so far Inventive Academy has me feeling very confident and vindicated in my decision to attend. To put it in perspective, by the end of the first week you can reproduce the layout of an actual (albeit simple) website using HTML and CSS and by the end of week seven you feel pretty confident that you could replicate just about any web layout that you come across. And there are still nineteen weeks to go at that point!
Sometimes they can throw you pretty abruptly into some pretty complex problems, so you do have to learn how to teach yourself (being able to teach yourself is a necessary skill in the field of coding with its rapidly-changing technologies). But the teachers and TA's are always sitting right there next to you ready to answer any question. Classes are a lot of fun, and it's probably not a bad thing that they are sometimes very challenging.
I recommend Inventive Academy without reservation.

The instructor had no lesson plan, he mostly did things off the cuff and did not know a lot of basic terms. The program manager will NEVER get back to you if you have any questions or need help from her. They tell you they help you find a job but once the course is over you never hear from them again. It took months for them to send everyone their certificate of completion when they told us it would take a week after class was over. I have had over 40 rejected job offers now with no end in sight. I have really enjoyed my time at Interface. The instructors, Nick and Kent, were great. I learned a lot from them. Nick ran the Foundations course, which teaches HTML, CSS, and jQuery, with a bit of Bootstrap (although Nick doesn't like that - he prefers coding in pure CSS). We did several projects, including one where we animate flipping a card over. I know it doesn't sound like much, but I have since used it in sites I am working on to create a spinning effect. We did not have one big project in that class, just some weekly projects. In Java, however, we did have one big class project. We made an online UNO game (the card game, that is). It works great! We finished the main work on it during class, but we still have some things we want to add, so we all agreed to meet on Sundays after the class was finished to add those things. One thing that the Java class had that online courses do not have is the back end. When you're making Java applications for a server, you have to add extra code such as POJOs to the package in order for it to work. We also had to learn a bit of SQL to get our data working for the game. I highly recommend Interface!
Disclosure: I did not have to pay out of pocket for Interface. A state grant has paid for my classes. I don't think paying for it would change my opinion though.
