After graduating from college, I really felt lost and anxious about not being able to find a job. I was looking for a coding bootcamp to review the knowledge I picked up in college and improve my skills. Kickstart Coding looked like it had a solid curriculum at a reasonable price so I decided to give it a try after attending some of their information sessions.
I recently landed my first front-end developer job two months after starting the course. I can confidently say that I was shocked at how quickly they prepared me for the transition.
The lessons were really easy to follow along with, and the approach is totally different from anything I experienced before. Instead of overloading me with all kinds of theoretical stuff, Michael focused on the fundamentals of programming, and provided a lot of activities to solidify my knowledge. He covered everything that was required to become a full-stack software engineer, starting with the basics like HTML, CSS, GIT, and Bash, to back-end technologies such as Heroku, Python, and Django, and finished with front-end projects using JavaScript and React. The 1-on-1 lessons were awesome, even if I didn’t always come with questions ahead of time about the course material. We also talked about the tech industry itself, their previous experience as software engineers, their and my current projects, and a lot more.
The custom-pacing structure was definitely a key factor of my success in landing my first developer job. At my request, Liam started my career activities within the first month of my start date alongside my coding lessons. This was crucial to landing an interview after sending out my first application!
Liam walked me through how to write resumes and cover letters, how to prepare for interviews, and basically everything I needed to know to feel prepared for the process. Michael would also dedicate time to preparing me for technical interviews. Even after I failed the last round at the first company, Michael and Liam were always encouraging me and pushing me to go beyond my limits and stay motivated. With that said, I landed my first developer job with less than a dozen applications, which I never had been able to do without the help of Michael and Liam.
I can’t stress this strongly enough, the Kickstart Coding bootcamp was worth every penny! It was such an amazing and inclusive environment. There were people totally new to programming alongside more experienced coders who were there to review their skills, and people who had asked for a more tailored curriculum to help them build their passion projects. It was a really special experience for me. I can’t thank them enough.

I had to remind myself that this program is only introducing me to the various plethora of tools in data analytics. Some tools I have heard of and other I had not. There were some of the concepts and tools that I would never seek out and there are those I want to learn more about. To be successful in this program, you will need to be committed. You need to understand that there will be things you will not understand but you need to push through it. Use all available resources. I like attempting the challenges and when stuck, I will have something for my tutor to help me resolve. That is something I did not realize until later in the program. You will definitely need two monitors! Attend office hours before and after class. The instructor and TAs were very helpful when I had an issue. Set your time for working on the assignments and stick to it. You have to remind yourself that it is only temporary and not a life sentence. Read through the requirements of the challenges before submitting. Take advantage of resubmitting your corrected assignments. Realize that the instructor is fallible and the topics maybe challenging them to teach. They have topics that they are more knowledgeable about than others and this program is the only teaching experience they have. This program will solidify soft skills such as: critical thinking, problem-solving, time-management, and team building. As challenging as it is, try your best to remain until the end. TDA is also very careful to ensure the applicant is well suited for the bootcamp with a multi-stage application process. From prior experience, I know this is a hidden hallmark of a high quality professional approach to training, because it ensures better learner outcomes over other less rigorous training programmes.
The course delivery has a practical focus, and is centred around gaining hands-on experience with current industry tools (e.g. Visual Studio, C++, Unreal Engine) and methods (e.g. Agile - Scrum & Kanban).
In summary:
The bootcamp was four months of full-time 'on the job'-style intensive training, backed up by a comprehensive support structure which includes career development. Approachable, friendly, helpful, supportive, employment focused training from video game industry professionals.Personally, to call it "positively life changing" isn't an exaggeration. I carefully researched my options for a UX/UI Bootcamp that was credible and part-time and decided on the Trilogy/University of Oregon. The program is very professional and well run. I can't say enough good about the people. The instructor, teaching assistants, and tutors are approachable and knowledgeable.
Some insight I would offer is that one of the most complex parts was learning how to use the tools. Because I had no background in design, the tools were utterly new to me. If I were to do it over again, I would take time to get a jump start and learn the basics of Figma before starting the program. In terms of time commitment, it would have been nearly impossible for me to complete the program while working full-time. I easily spent 20 hours a week on homework alone. Another thing to note is that office hours are 30 minutes before and after every class. They are beneficial, and I attended most of them to ask questions and get help.
My goal was to get the most out of the program, and one thing that was a struggle for me was that I would have liked more support. Office hours are great, but when there are 15 people all waiting to get their questions answered in 30 minutes, there is rarely enough time for everyone. Tutoring is offered once weekly for 45 minutes; if you're struggling, you can request an additional session. I could have easily had 2 - 3 hour weekly sessions because of my many questions. This was not a struggle for everyone in my cohort, but I had A LOT of questions since everything was new to me.
Overall, I would choose the same program if I were to do it all over again. I hope this review gives additional insight to prospective students. With dedication and hard work, you can do this!

Coding boot camps are great in taking you from zero knowledge to being able to builds things in record time, but it is hard to learn to think like a developer in such short period. This course really helped me with that.
The curriculum is very vast, and it becomes difficult very fast. I struggled a lot but almost immediately I realized that I was getting better. I don't know if I will ever apply all the concepts that I learned, but it definitely leveled up my coding quality and problem solving skills.
The teacher has a lot of experience and he is really good at explaining complex concepts with simple examples. He also has a lot of patience and always goes the extra mile to make sure that you understand.
The career advice part is also really good, you get CV, LinkedIn and portfolio reviews, and mocking interviews with senior developers.
